Speed versus Health?
In 2017, in an appeal to the European Union, more than 180 scientists and doctors from 36 countries warned about the danger of 5G, which will lead to a massive increase in involuntary exposure to electromagnetic radiation. “We, the undersigned scientists, recommend a moratorium on the roll-out of the fifth generation, 5G, for telecommunication until potential hazards for human health and the environment have been fully investigated by scientists independent from industry. 5G will substantially increase exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF) on top of the 2G, 3G, 4G, WiFi etc. for telecommunications already in place. RF-EMF has been proven to be harmful for humans and the environment.”
In another and riveting article by Susan Crawford, Professor at Harvard Law School, she poses this question, “what if transmissions to and from 5G cells, which will need to be everywhere, and much closer to us than traditional cell towers, pulsing out very-high-frequency radio waves at high power levels, pose real risks to human health”?
What really caught her attention was “It turns out that sweat glands, right under the skin, effectively act as antennas in response to the very-high-frequency millimeter waves planned to be used in 5G communications which is why the Department of Defense uses millimeter-wave crowd-control guns. If you’re hit by one of these beams, it apparently feels as if your body is on fire But there’s no lasting harm, according to DOD.
Professor Yael Stein of Jerusalem’s Hebrew University explains further that our skin is like an absorbent sponge. The specialised antennas in our sweat glands are actually constructed specifically to respond to electromagnetic fields. As we have millions of sweat ducts and with 5G’s increased RFR needs, it stands to reason that our bodies will become far more conductive to this radiation. The full ramifications of this fact are presently unclear, especially for more vulnerable members of the public (e.g., babies, pregnant women, the elderly),
The FCC (The Federal Communications Commission) voted on July 14 to bring 5G to the US to make spectrum bands above 24 GHz available for the 5G technology, despite the fact that with the proliferation of technology for cell phones there are serious health risks. It looks like the FCC has the attitude of going full speed ahead.
The FCC standard for measuring the health effects of electromagnetic radiation is based on whether the exposure, on average, will heat human tissue over short periods (six minutes for occupational work and 30 minutes for public exposure). June 20 saw the chairman of the FCC, Tom Wheeler, praising the rollout of 5G applications along with networks and he called them a game changer, along with national priority and went on to say that it would bring in tens of billions of dollars. The change of game means instead of the 2.5 minutes it takes to download 300 megabytes, networks can increase both amount and speed of between one thousand to up to ten thousand megabytes in 4-40 seconds.
The US government says that 5G is safe so far but they also said that about thalidomide, asbestos, lead paint and smoking, all of which have now been said to be otherwise and far from safe.
The Environmental Health Trust has published other finds which need attention:-
- DNA single and double-strand breaks (which leads to cancer)
- Oxidative damage (which leads to tissue deterioration and premature ageing)
- Disruption of cell metabolism
- Increased blood-brain barrier permeability
- Melatonin reduction (leading to insomnia and increasing cancer risks)
- Disruption of brain glucose metabolism
- Generation of stress proteins (leading to myriad diseases)
And possibly the most “frightening frequency fact” from The Environmental Health Trust is that:-
HUMAN SKIN WILL BE CLASSIFIED AS AN EXTREMITY ALLOWING HIGHER EXPOSURES
Our skin is our largest organ. Dariusz Leszczynski, PhD, Chief Editor of Radiation and Health has stated that the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection usually referred to as ICNIRP – is developing recommendations for public exposure limits of these higher frequencies is planning to classify all the skin in the human body as belonging to the limbs rather than to the head or torso. Leszczynski cautioned that, “If you classify skin as limbs – no matter where the skin is – you are permitted to expose it more than otherwise.”
We assume that in terms of US exposure limits this means that the skin will be classified as “an extremity”. Extremities are allowed to be exposed to much higher radiation levels than the brain, torso, legs and arms. In the USA extremities -in regards to wireless radiation- are specifically wrists and hands, ankles and feet and the ear.
As yet, it is due to be rolled out in the UK but is planned to be available in major networks by the end of this year.
